ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A seventh-grader from Edina has won a statewide geography contest and will represent the state at the national finals next month.

Alexander Conrad of Valley View Middle School took top honors Friday at the 2013 Minnesota Geographic Bee. He beat out about 100 other competitors.

He wins $100, a National Geographic DVD and a trip to Washington, D.C., where he’ll represent Minnesota in the finals. If he wins there he’ll receive a $25,000 college scholarship along with an all-expense-paid trip to the Galapagos Islands.

The runner-up was Francis Winter from Willmar Middle School in Willmar. Third place went to Audrey Gorman, of Our Lady of Grace in Edina.

The national finals run from May 20-22. The contest is open to students between the fourth and eighth grades.
